API3

API3

Application Programming Interfaces, or API, are a standardized way for developers to access information from a particular service. An API is basically a workshop with tools and rules for interacting with a piece of software. Most websites, like Twitter and Facebook, have API that allow people to send information into and out of networks. Blockchains do not always have this capacity and when they do, it can be specific to their ecosystem or the information is unreliable. API3 wants to build a simple, universal tool for blockchains to get reliable information onchain. Unlike a “blockchain oracle”, which can limit the amount of information transmitted, API3 lets developers build more diverse tools for accessing and sharing information across blockchains and the real world.
