Carbon Credits are when a company pays someone else to not pollute for them. Simplistically, if your business needs to run a car for a very long time, you pay someone to plant enough trees to absorb the carbon. This is called a carbon credit and can be traded like any other financial asset. MCO2 aims to bring the idea of carbon credits into the crypto space and onto the blockchain. This is ironic since cryptocurrencies are often accused of using a lot of energy. It is also good business since crypto companies will be very interested in how they burn less carbon or at least pay someone to clean up their mess. Since humans are greedy, the Moss Carbon Credit team is building a cryptocurrency that pays people to pollute less. After all, Crypto companies make a lot of money and use a lot of energy so building a business between crypto and carbon might just work.
